The Seven Hanging Valleys

When seeing the gorgeous roads of the Algarve coastline (Can you tell that I'm obsessed by the way I already mentioned it a hundred times already?) I knew that there must be a good hike with the terrific view of the endless big blue. I did my research and I found the seven hanging valleys hike which is intermediate to complete but quite difficult to get to the starting point.

Based in Lagos, I had to take the bus (or the train) to Lagoa where I had to switch the bus to get to Carvoeiro. It's not hard to find the nearest beach but it's very difficult to move forward cause even this small point on the map has so much to offer. You can only access the beach by stairs carved in rocks, so it's safer to come here when it hasn't rained for a while because slippery reasons.

I'm gonna start with a small explanatory of the hike's name but don't expect me to go all the way down the scientific rabbit hole. Basically with the power of water (especially rainwater) and wind shaped holes in the rocks of the coastline and the greatest example of them all is the "ceiling" of the Benagil cave which is only accessible from water (How cool is that?!)

I think I will let this blog post speak through the breathtaking images because in my opinion, words can't describe the sight of nature at its most beautiful moments.

You will probably not see fisherman so high. (don't do drugs kids, stay in school)

There are always surprises when it comes to nature. You wouldn't expect to see such a vivid greenery so high on the coastline. From small little flowers, cute succulents and cactus to Aloe Vera like plants almost as big as you are - you can find anything.

This hike can be a metaphor for life like many. If you think about it, just as life it has its ups and downs but the main conclusion is that no matter where you are, just simply enjoy the sight (and the sun) while it lasts. For me this is the perfect example for the Portuguese state of mind.

At the end of the hike, I came to the realization that there's no bus back to the city so I could cross hitchhiking in Portugal off my bucket list.

At the end of the day all came together to make it work. It's always like this.
